Edward Johnson III was a prominent figure in the history of African-American education and civil rights mrlitterbox. Born in 1905, Johnson was born into a family of educators and activists who encouraged him to strive for educational excellence. He attended the public schools of his hometown of Moultrie, Georgia and graduated from Howard University in 1927 with a degree in economics. Johnson’s career was marked by many accomplishments. He was appointed as a professor of economics at Clark College in Atlanta techgesu, Georgia, and later became the first African-American to serve as President of the college. During his tenure, Johnson worked to improve the quality of the education offered to African-American students and to increase the number of African-American faculty members. In addition to his academic work, Johnson was a prominent civil rights leader gyanhindiweb. He served as Vice President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and was an active member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). He was a staunch advocate for desegregation, and was part of the effort to challenge the segregation of public transportation in the South. Johnson was also a leader in the fight for voting rights for African-Americans. He was a founding member of the Voter Education Project, which worked to register African-Americans to vote in the South indiancelebrity. He also served on the National Advisory Council on Civil Disorders, a commission that worked to investigate the causes of civil unrest in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s.
